Madeira Magic: Culture, Cuisine, Charm End of Summer
In early September, we had the pleasure of introducing an American group of 90 people to the beauty, tradition, and flavors of Madeira Island. From hands-on activities to elegant evenings, the experience was crafted to reveal the island’s unique heritage.
Below is an example of a day of this itinerary:
The adventure began with a warm welcome at Quinta do Furão, a scenic spot perched on Santana’s cliffs, where guests enjoyed refreshing welcome drinks. The group eagerly joined in the age-old tradition of grape treading, a lively ritual accompanied by music and dancing that brought everyone together in true Madeira spirit. They also had the chance to craft their own Poncha, Madeira’s iconic drink, with guidance from local experts. A buffet lunch followed, celebrating Madeira’s cuisine with traditional dishes like “espetada” and a curated wine-tasting session featuring the island’s beloved Madeira wines.
The evening was equally enchanting. Guests departed the hotel in vintage cars from the 1920s to 1940s, adding a touch of nostalgia and sophistication to the night. Upon arrival to venue, they were warmly welcomed by hosts in costumes inspired by the Madeira Wine Festival, embodying the island’s rich culture and festive spirit. The intimate dinner was held at the atmospheric Madeira Wine Cellar, surrounded by historic wine barrels and ambiance of the Madeira Wine Company. This memorable experience, filled with heritage and hospitality, offered a true taste of Madeira’s vibrant traditions and unique charm.
