Where Spain's wildest landscape earns its place

Wellness in MICE has stopped being a spa afternoon bolted onto an agenda. For leadership and incentive groups, it's now the design principle and few places in Spain make the case as naturally as Ourense and the Ribeira Sacra. Accessible by high-speed rail (AVE) from Madrid in roughly 2h15, and just over an hour from Vigo airport (VGO) by road, the region proves that authenticity and accessibility are not a trade-off.

Why Ourense?
Ourense is the only city in Spain with free, functioning thermal springs running through its streets. Not hotel spa water, but geothermal springs at source temperatures of 60–70°C, channeled into public pools along the river. A morning or closing ritual here isn't manufactured wellness. It's water that's been doing this for millennia. Just beyond the city, the Ribeira Sacra unfolds along the canyons of the Sil and Miño rivers: terraced vineyards carved into near-vertical slopes, riverside monasteries, and a landscape that reads as a thousand-year lesson in patience and collective effort. A narrative that lands hard with leadership groups.

Day 1
Arrival in Ourense opens with a sunset thermal ritual at Outariz the kind of arrival that immediately signals this program is different. The evening continues with dinner at Vértigo, the Michelin-starred table at Bodegas Regina Viarum, built around local producers and Ribeira Sacra wine served in the traditional wide cunca.

Day 2
The morning begins on the water, silent boat navigation through the Sil canyon, a natural and immersive alternative to conventional teambuilding that lets the landscape do the talking. An open-air work session follows at Adega Algueira winery, where the setting reframes the conversation before it even begins. The afternoon is left open among the terraces or for a monastery visit, before a return to the thermal waters closes the day as it began, slowly, deliberately.

Day 3
The final morning centers on a walk through the vine terraces with a local grower, whose story of near-impossible labor over generations becomes one of the most powerful metaphors a leadership group can take home. Lunch follows among the vines at the grower's own house, before the program closes with a closing circle instead of a closing deck.

The natural base for the program is the Parador de Santo Estevo, a converted 12th-century monastery and 4-star hotel overlooking the Sil canyon, with its own thermal-water spa circuit and the meeting infrastructure the concept requires. Ideal for groups of 20–35.

A landscape that's spent a thousand years proving that patience produces something worth drinking. Hard to think of a better metaphor to hand a leadership team.
