The Azores Have a Way of Slowing You Down
The islands that quietly change everything
Some destinations are all about ticking off landmarks. Others invite you to experience something different. The Azores belong to the second kind.
Recently, we had the opportunity to spend a few days exploring São Miguel and Flores with a group of 30 guests, and once again, these islands reminded us that the best experiences are often the simplest ones.
In São Miguel, every day unfolded differently. One moment we were surrounded by volcanic landscapes and emerald lakes, the next we were sharing local flavors overlooking the Atlantic. There is something special about the island, a feeling that quietly demands you slow down and enjoy where you are, instead of thinking about where you're going next.
Then we arrived in Flores. Every corner feels as though nature has been quietly perfecting it for centuries. Wild, peaceful and wonderfully untouched, Flores has a way of making everything else fade into the background. The waterfalls, the dramatic cliffs, the winding roads lined with hydrangeas... it's hard to describe the feeling of this island without experiencing it yourself.
As always though, what made this journey truly memorable wasn't only the destination. It was watching the group embrace every moment together. The conversations that naturally continued over dinner, the shared excitement of discovering a new landscape, the laughter during unexpected moments and the memories created along the way. Those are the experiences that no itinerary can script, yet they often become the ones everyone remembers most.
This is why we love what we do.
Designing journeys is about far more than choosing beautiful places. It's about creating opportunities for people to connect with a destination, with each other and with experiences they'll continue talking about long after they return home. The Azores gave us another reminder of that.
